Birch Bark Pine Cone Ornament

eHow Crafts Blog

I love using natural elements in my decor, oftentimes resorting to branches, foliage and even seasonal fruit. It’s an easy and inexpensive way to bring a little beauty into your home.

This particular ornament is reminiscent of cold winter days in the forest. I love the look of birch bark and how it brings that beautiful woodland touch to Christmas.

Things You’ll Need

  • Styrofoam ball
  • Scissors
  • Birch bark or birch paper printable
  • Ribbon or twine
  • Hot glue gun & glue sticks

Cut several scalelike shapes. I cut several the same size and some smaller ones to fill in any gaps.

Start at the bottom, and with hot glue, glue scales around the circumference of the ball. Place them tightly, to avoid gaps.

Continue gluing the next layers. Overlap the scales.

When you are a quarter of the way up, hot glue twine or your desired ribbon, and secure by gluing some bark around it.

Continue gluing the scales all the way up. If you notice some small gaps, just use some of the smaller scales and insert in between the gaps.

You can now display your beautiful ornament proudly.
