DIY: Gussy Up Your Denim

eHow Crafts Blog

Break up with black and gray this spring and flirt with color by embellishing your denim jacket with a vibrant vintage serape.

Cut enough off the bottom of the serape to cover the back yoke of your jacket. Place the jacket on your dress form and pin the edge to the bottom of the yoke seam.

Fold under and pin the rest of the yoke to fit the yoke of the jacket. Smoothing down as you pin. You may have to clip some of the curves as you do this.

Pin around the edges and remove from the jacket.

Underneath, you will end up with extra material around the edges.

Trim off the extra fabric. Pin it onto the back yoke of the jacket and attach by hand stitching all around.

Do the same to both of the front yokes. Cut a piece of the serape a little larger than the area you want to cover, fold under and pin to fit.

Pin around the edges and remove from the jacket.

Trim the excess fabric, pin back onto the front yoke and attach by hand stitching all around the edges.

Press with a hot iron and you’ve got a charming rainbow of color to wear this spring.
